ROUTE MANAGEMENT

WHAT IS ROUTE MANAGEMENT?

Route management refers to the planning of the most effective routes based on GPS and real-time map technology and location data. From small businesses who simply want to get deliveries out to customers on time, or fleet managers controlling hundreds of heavy commercial vehicles, route management can considerably boost productivity and efficiency.

Our management software helps determine the most efficient and optimized routes to help you improve delivery time windows, increase profitability and reduce mileage. With this modern technology you’ll have the data to plan the best routes time after time.

HOW CAN ROUTE MANAGEMENT INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY?

Road transport can be complex and impacted by several factors, including traffic accidents, congestion, weather events, road construction and other events which cause delays, making moving goods and people from one place to another a complicated process. Often, customers waiting on goods and services simply want to be kept in the loop about estimated arrival times. With effective route management that takes historical and real-time data into account, an accurate time frame can be provided. Data collected by WHG Technologies’ GPS tracking system can be analysed and adjustments can be made to improve productivity.

HOW IS ROUTE MANAGEMENT INFORMATION UTILISED?

Dispatchers are able to use the real-time data to direct drivers to their closest locations at that moment, reducing fuel consumption, vehicle mileage and increasing the jobs a fleet can complete in a day. Drivers also benefit from the ability to select the best routes - the one that would take the attributes of their vehicle into account and adjust the route according to legal and physical restrictions. Estimated times of arrival are calculated on current traffic conditions and ensure accurate timings.

ROUTE MANAGEMENT FOR HEAVY COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

Fleet managers of heavy commercial vehicles have to take the mass and dimensions of the vehicles they are managing into account. WHG Technologies’ route management telematics generate routes based on factors including the size and weight of the truck itself, the cargo being transported and driver experience. Not only does this increase efficiency but the safety of the driver too. With real-time data, fleet managers are able to monitor incidents on the route and communicate changes to the driver quickly and effectively.

FUEL AND ROUTE MANAGEMENT

Fuel is one of the most costly elements of any business running vehicles. Improving route selection by comparing data about planned versus actual activity, utilising real-time information to avoid traffic and delays, and thereby reducing unplanned detours that can reduce fuel costs by reducing miles driven unnecessarily. Insight into routing, average speeds, idling, and unauthorised vehicle usage can be used as a fuel economy tool to reduce the amount of fuel your fleet requires. A range of reports analysing this data can be generated to help users to understand their business’ fuel usage and identify areas in which adjustments could be made to reduce consumption.

RECORD ROUTES AND RECEIVE FUEL TAX CREDITS

The fuel tax in Australia is levied on all fuel purchases – it is included in the price you pay at the pump. There are, however, certain instances in which you would be entitled to claim that fuel tax back. The exact fuel tax credit you are entitled to depends on a few things including when you purchased the fuel, what kind of fuel it is and where that fuel is used, specifically if it was used on private roads which include parking areas, distribution centres and depots. WHG Technologies’ Gridtraq product records and stores GPS data which then provides measurements and allows customers to apportion kilometres travelled in vehicles.

A GPS Data report is generated from the data pertaining to each vehicle. The distance travelled by the vehicle is recorded according to GPS satellite data using the vehicle’s latitude and longitude, generated on a second-by-second basis. This information can be used to determine the number of kilometres travelled by the vehicle and the location of that travel, then subsequently used in determining the apportionment of fuel at various locations and how much that amounts to in fuel tax credits. Accurately recorded routing data can be used as a fuel tax calculator and this information used to apportion fuel for such uses ensuring that you submit accurate data for your fuel claim to the Australian Tax Office.

GEOFENCING AND ROUTE MANAGEMENT

An administrator can create geofences around specific locations to reflect the categorisation of locations of travel for the purposes of fuel tax credits. This could include newly opened roads not yet reflected on maps based on the dataset of the Australian road system, or a road that is closed and undergoing construction and maintenance work for a set time period.

Geofences can also be configured to alert drivers to no-go zones such as routes with height or weight restrictions; these would help a business profoundly as they’d be time saving and ensure compliance with the rules of the road. Setting up exclusionary zones via geofencing when planning routes is a simple and effective method of ensuring that drivers know to avoid these areas, and if there is a breach a manager is able to respond to correct it immediately.

The data and real-time simplicity offered by WHG Technologies’ telematic products enable businesses to plan and manage routes more efficiently.
